WingBack Chair Reupholester

Yeah you read that right,
I decided to take on reupholstering a wing back chair!
What was I thinking right!
Well, we got a hand me down red wing back chair from the in laws when we moved,
it was pretty but did not match my decor in our house.
Then when I bought the fabric for Sydney rocker
( read about recovering Sydney's rocker here
I fell in love with a blue print too,
the perfect print for the mismatched red wing back.
But (insert sad face) I was quoted $375 to have it done.
Yeah right!
So...I read a few blogs, and tutorials, watched a You Tube video or two and decided
we (Alex & I) could pull it off!

Well with that being said let me just say that re upholstery is not for the faint of heart
and there is a reason why it is so expensive!
I wouldn't say it was "hard" but it was very time consuming,
required a lot of brain power and well just a pain in the butt!
Alex even tried to throw the whole chair away at one point!
But now it is finished and I'm so pleased with what we were able to do!

This is the chair in it's original red.
See nice right?
It just did not match at all in our house!

Then here are some photos of the process!

It was actually minimal sewing and mostly tucking and layering.
Most of the videos I watched referred to is as "layers of an onion"
It was such a learning experience and I'm so happy we did it!
And  I'm really proud of how well the pattern lined up down the center!
Brain power! lol!

(where the seat and the back meet)

It looks so much better in our living room now!
I'm so happy we stuck it out and did it!
A big thank you to Alex because he did the stapling
(the staple gun scares me)

loving try to do my best

This really made me smile.
That letter pretty much sums it up great!
I love my kids, I want to be the best mom I can be,
but I do have short falls.
I struggle with patients at times,
my house is not always super clean,
and there is always laundry that either needs to be washed or put away.
But my kids and I are happy,
we have fun filled days and that is what matters most to me right now.
This mama said it well,

Read it to make your mama day too!!

Lots o' Love!

Tire Swing

Nathan got a tire swing and I love it!
So country charm-ish cute!
Hanging in the Jack-a-Randa tree in the grass!
It's charming and I smile whenever I look out my window and see it!

The boys have been having lots of fun on it!
Summertime and the livin' is easy!

Bird gotta eat too...

Right?
I mean they need to food just as much as the next living thing!
And it just so happens that we have a bird bath so why not a bird feeder right?
 Nathan loves to watch birds...
So we got a humming bird feeder.
We filled it up and were ready to hang it...

Rather then getting a ladder
Alex thought this was an easier way to hang it...

In case you can't tell what he is standing on because of the shadows here is a better view...

Seems smart huh!
Yeah I thought so too!
Men are so silly!

But the birds now have food,
no falling took place,
the picnic (arts & crafts table) was returned to it's normal location
and my side table project was unharmed.

A win, win, win, win!

Homemade Dish Washer Detergent

Have ya'll noticed that soap in general is ubber (yeah ubber is a word ok) expensive?
So I thought why not make my own!
Greenier, Cheaper...sounds good to me!
And turns out it even works better!
My Mother-In-Law and I both think it works better than the store bought stuff we have always used.
So now that I've got you interested,
do you want to learn how to make some for your self?
Well alrightly than!

You'll need:
1 Box of Arm and Harmer Super Washing Soda
1 Box of Borax
24 packects of  unsweetened lemonade drink mix
3 cups of Epsom Salt
A container to store it in
A large bowl or bucket to mix it in

And if you need or want a rinsing aid you can use vinegar in that load!

All you do is mix it all in a very big bowl or a clean bucket
( I used a new Home Depo 'Homer' bucket)
Mix well!

Once it is mixed well put your new soap in an air tight container of your choice.

I used these drink containers for the 'pour spout' but it is not air tight.
So I have since moved it to a jar.

You use just 1Tbs per load!
Yup that's it!
Super easy, cheap and works really well!
I love that is makes so much it will last for a very long time!
I spilt it with my mother in law.

Let me know if you try it, what you think!
I'm plan on making laundry soap with week,
just need to get a huge pot to "cook" it in!
