Sewing doesn't always go as planned

I read a number of sewing blogs, and it's rare that you see anyone post about projects that didn't work out. Yet I like to believe that even the most advanced seamstress has a day were nothing is working and she just has to call it a loss.

I recently made Sydney a bathing suit, and that got me wanting to make Nathan one too! I set out to the thrift stores to find some cute men's board shorts to refashion to toddler size. I collected a few, and decided to try on my least favorite ones. Good plan!

You see when making shorts you need to cut the  two front (and back) panels as mirror images with the right sides of the fabric, or you end up with the right side of the fabric showing on one leg and the wrong side exposed on the other (inside of on one side) Brilliant ol' me did that! Yup totally screwed that one up! Good thing it was not the favorite pair, and they were only a $3 investment at the goodwill!

It happens!

  1. I can relate. I recently cut out pattern pieces for a skirt from a fabric with a one way pattern. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until I stitched the front and back pieces together. I will be spending a weekend day ripping the seams out and starting over. At least I can use that piece for pockets or for something else, since it's a skirt for my grand daughter.

  2. I'm glad I'm not the only one who messes things up from time to time!
